Mash Tun ('mash tun) n. A large vessel or vat in which grains and water are mixed together at different temperatures for varying lengths of time. This process called “mashing”, activates enzymes which convert starch into sugar forming a sweet liquid called wort (pronounced “wert”). It is this wort that is drained off into the kettle, boiled with hops and then fermented into beer…sweet, glorious beer!
Here at The Mash Tun, all of our house beers are hand-made in small 3.5 barrel batches using only the finest, high quality ingredients. Our beers are served unfiltered, unpasteurized and unprocessed directly from the holding tanks assuring that when you come to the mash tun, you receive the freshest, best tasting beer possible. Our electric brewery is powered entirely by renewable energy, allowing us to brew all of our house beer without the use of any fossil fuels, which we’re pretty sure the planet appreciates too...
Cheers!
